About me

My goal is to help guide individuals and companies to success by means of intercultural competence.

I was raised in a very diverse environment and therefore diversity to me is like a read thread running through my life. In both my personal and professional lives I enjoy moving in lots of different contexts and I regard diversity as a great benefit and inspiration.

My work profits from the fact that I was able to get to know a great number of different perspectives and points of view. It is important to me to deploy the potential inherent in diversity for the benefit of all. I am a fervent believer in life-long learning.

Until our move, the staff of the board of the Bayer AG was my professional home. This was a time during which I learned a lot about corporate processes, analytical approaches, corporate leadership and corporate culture. My main tasks were in human resources management. Only while training to become a coach, it became clear to me that back then, I had intuitively carried out not just my designated tasks but had acted as a coach also. I gave honest feedback, I had become a feel-good manager of my section, and was able to help those around my change their perspectives. People were always more important to me than the roles they held within the company. For more than 20 years I have engaged with a number of social causes. I was founder and first director of the “Arche Noah”, the first integrated kindergarten in Leichlingen. I was active in a number of city committees and worked alongside politicians and civil servants.

Living Abroad

My family and I lived in Budapest for seven years, where I dedicated myself to intercultural projects in an international environment, and where I for the first time worked as a coach and founded my own company. Since our return to Germany, I have been working as an intercultural coach and trainer, for instance in businesses, in media, or the political sector. I continue to move in different worlds in which intercultural issues and changes of perspective are important. I actively participate in a number of associations, charities, and NGOs. For instance, I was member of the board of a certification commission of a coaching association and certified coaches as well as particular coaching courses and trainings.

A Holistic Approach

I have already written multiple articles on what I call my holistic approach, which sees intercultural competences as a result of the reflection on one’s own “intercultural lens”. This enables critical reflection of one’s own ways of acting and communicating and produces intercultural sensitivity. Ultimately, this approach is grounded in a humanist view of the world, which appreciates each individual’s talents and views human diversity as a resource. Incorporating a multitude of dimensions (generation, gender, inclusion…) allows organisations and businesses to become more agile and more resilient as a result.

Engagement

For years I have worked on a number of projects on a volunteer basis:

  • On 22 May 2019 I was invited, as one of two citizens of Lower Saxony, to the “Democracy up close” event hosted by the President of the Federal Republic of Germany on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the German Constitution.
  • In November 2017 I signed the Charter for Diversity (Charta der Vielfalt), an initiative by the association of the same name which works to promote diversity in business and civil society. www.charta-der-vielfalt.de
  • In June 1995 I founded, alongside other parents, the Arche Noah e.V. in Leichlingen and was first director of the initiative. www.arche-noah-leichlingen.de
